Awkward Conversations

I suck at starting and keeping up conversations. I'm the worst conversationalist ever. Anyone else have this problem? Of course you do this is SPW...
anyways, I'm bad with conversations and I often get so anxious I go mute or can't think of anything to say. So things don't go so well when people are trying to talk to me...

So, post any awkward or gone wrong conversations you've had with someone!

Here's mine:
ok, i was at school in class and we were suppose to walk around and talk to anyone we didnt know. so im standing by myself (too anxious to talk to anyone) and this girl walks up to me...
girl: Hi
me: hi...
girl: you look really shy, and really nervous
me: uh...yeah... (gee, thanks for the compliment. really boosts my self-confidence -.-)
girl: should i go away?
me: no, uh it doesnt matter...
girl: im gonna talk to someone else... (in sort of a mean tone, and then walks away)
yea that made me feel like s**t. and by the way she talked to me and looked at me she probably thought i was weird and being really rude.

Haha I can tell you: you're not the worst conversationalist ever, no way XD
I don't remember any conversation now anyway, because I barely talk... but even with the closest people in my life (like family) I can barely say a word >.<

I have lots of awkward situations but I've forced myself to forget them, I'm trying anyways :D Most of them start with me being really nervous and then someone asks "why are you blushing?" "why are you all red in your face?" etc. And then I have no idea what to say... Just "Um, er, I don't know...."

Such a self confidence boost that!

That's usually how my conversations go too, all choppy (good description, invisibleman) like that. Like, the first day when I moved into college, my roommate already had friends over in the dorm. She was going to go with them back to their place and so she asks me, "Do you want to go?"

I'm just like, "Uhh... Okay, sure...." because I didn't really have anything better to do and I thought that by saying no would've made me look rude.

I didn't say anything the whole time while I was with them. When we were just sitting in her friend's dorm my roommate goes, "You're really quiet. You don't really say much do you?"

"No....."

Yeah, that was basically our first conversation. XD Awkward as hell. I've had a couple actual conversations since then, but still most of the time it's quite blunt and choppy.

At a friend's party several months ago:

Guy: Hi!
Me: ...Hi.
Guy: (All smiley, totally relaxed) ...
Me: (Tense and awkward) ...
Guy: (Trying to make eye contact with me) ...
Me: (Looking elsewhere) ...
Guy: (Still trying to make eye contact) ...
Me:... (Still avoiding eye contact) ...
Guy: Not much of a talker are you?
Me: (Thinking to myself) Thank you Captain Obvious...
(Actually talking) Yeah, sorry... I'm really shy...
Guy: I can tell. Is that why you're here all by yourself?
Me: Yeah. Parties aren't my thing, honestly. I just got dragged here by my friend. As usual...
Guy: (laughs) Well I'm glad they did, otherwise I wouldn't have met you ;)
Me: *blushes* O-oh..
Guy: (Expects me to say something) ...
Me: ...
Guy: Well, it was nice talking to you! (Gets up and leaves)
Me: Yeah...

And people wonder why I hate parties so much?

I have awkward conversations all the time, even to family members. I remember one time my half-brother (who feels like a stranger to me anyway, don't see him much) asked to talk to me on the phone, and he put me on the spot and asked me what I would wanted for my birthday (and I was on loud speaker with his girlfriend listening) I was just bumbling like an idiot as I felt pressurised to give him an answer, but didn't want to ask him for anything because it would seem rude like I think he HAS to buy me something, well anyway I just blurted out "um...er....yeah, just gimme money" which probably sounded kinda rude to him and his girlfriend, but I just said it out without thinking, and now I feel annoyed at myself every time I think about it. It sounds weird to feel like that talking to your half-brother, and would be easy for a normal person to say to their sibling, but I just feel uncomfortable talking to him on the phone (and in real life) because he has an aggressive way of talking to me, like I'm an idiot which makes me feel worse.

Oh yeah, another one that pops up that pains me to think about is when I was put on this work programme thing by the Job Centre to help me get experience, this stumpy lady who was my assigned "advisor" was chatting on the phone to the guy who was the manager of the shop I was doing the work placement for at the time, and I heard her talking about me to him while I was in the room, (heh, she thought I couldn't hear her cause I was on the computer job searching with my earphones in) and she basically was discussing with him how awkward I was and how I made her feel uncomfortable :/ Jesus, and I thought I was doing an okay job with my attempts to be social...guess even when I try I still come across as awkward.

Still awkward, but a better conversation than everything I've ever had in a party >.<

Yeah, that was the closest thing to a conversation I've ever had at a party. I had one not too long ago that was waaaay more awkward but I'm too embarrassed to post that one.

Haha I understand, parties can get weird XD

Anyway I'm too shy to start a conversation unless I'm drunk (which I only did it a couple of times and don't plan to do it again) and people don't start conversations with me, so I don't think I'll be able to post any in this thread....

*leaves the thread for conversationally acceptable people*

:p
