Are there any high-profile people who suffer from SA?

At the moment, I'm reading this self help book and it starts off with theory about SA, shyness.

It talks of performance anxiety and stage fright, explaining a misconception that actors don't suffer from SA because they can be on stage performing or acting in roles.

But she says that being "in role" is a safety mechanism in the same way SA keep safe by going to certain places etc. And using acting to help them in some situations.

It got me thinking back to my school days where I really excelled in Drama. I used to look forward to those lessons and really put effort into. I remember receiving compliments for my performance and I chose it as one of my modules for my last two years. Culminating in giving an excellent final performance when my teacher shook my hand and praised me. I guess, in hindsight, I liked playing other people who are the complete anti-dote to who I was as a person.

Also thought of Christian Bale for some reason. I do feel, just looking in from the outside that he may suffer from some form of SA due to the way he conducts his interviews in a very cautious, to the point way that leaves no real room to get to know him or his personality.

Any thoughts?

Neil Young was extremely introverted, though I don't know if it would be classified as SA. After seeing Ray Lamontagne perform in concert, I wouldn't be surprised at all to learn that he has social anxiety. I'm sure a lot of performers struggle with these sorts of things. Artists are pretty notorious for being outcast/loner types too.
