this is just one of my many problems but i find it the weirdest. Ill be watching a movie or tv and a situation comes up where a character is put in a really awkward or embarrassing situation. For some reason it makes me feel embarrassed as if it was me in that situation and i just cant watch it i have to change the channel or look away. just wanted to see if anyone else has this problem thx.

It is natural, I think.People who are not SA,behave so.Just, you really concentrate on the film and you feel same feelings with the character in the film.

something like this happens to me as well. Don't know why, but i often change the channels or look away when it happens.

Me too! It's usually not that bad when I'm alone, but if I'm with friends or family, it's extremely awkward.

I don't feel it at all when alone, but if someone else is around, yeah.

yeah yeah, this is normal. That's why we have the term 'cringeworthy' upon which comedies like 'the office' and 'extras' thrive. You feel as though it's just so painful that you just can't watch- but sometimes do (and the rest of the time change the channel)

I think that a lot of people like to see things like slapstick comedy because they're glad that it isn't happening to them, but I always hate it because I think how the person would feel if it were really happening, and I imagine if it were happening to me. This is like that, just an uncomfortable situation rather than a physically painful one. I guess we feel that way because SA is imagining how other people feel - about you, every moment you're with them - and we notice it also in a situation like this.

I get that feeling. I get embarrassed for other people. In real life or characters in television shows or movies. And in a way I am relieved that I'm not the one being embarrassed. Weird but probably common with SA sufferers.

I umderstand. Like I hate it when people do stuff that makes YOU feel embarrassed. Not to sound selfishishish or anything but I really don't care about how they would feel in that situation, it just for reason makes me feel embarrassed for ME not them and I can't even look sometimes.

Not in a movie or on tv but in real life for me. I know exactly what you mean though.
