What do you suppose would happen if you became afflicted with permanent amnesia?would your anxiety/insecurities be wiped out and you would get a fresh start?

I would love to forget everything that happened up until now but I think that doing so would directly affect my overall intelligence so Id have to go with "no" i dont want it.

If I forgot everything my anxiety would still be there as with my OCD and pain, maybe my depression would go away though.

Have you done research on amnesia? How do you know your anxiety would still be there along with OCD and whatever else?

My anxiety would be there still because I have no memory as it is of why I'm afraid of people. My OCD has NOTHING to do with my memory and is just maldaptive pathways in my brain. Ive researched the both for the past 4 years but havent really focused on memory or amnesia, im just making connections from what I already know.

I think either way it would be a pretty bad thing to happen. Afflicted is definitely the right word. Who knows, maybe it could partly cure you of your anxieties (though i doubt it, since as Noca said, fear seems to go beyond memory) But it would sacrifice such a big part of your life, which you'd never be able to get back...

Fair enough,it was just something I was pondering..You may be correct with those certain behaviors having nothing to do with memory..I was wondering if say for example you grew up being constantly verbally abused/criticized by your parents thus resulting in you becoming extremely insecure and having low self worth and then you became afflicted with an extreme case of amnesia, would you then perhaps have self worth/confidence if you didnt recall any of the abuse you endured?
