Sugar Gliders

There was a display at the mall (conveniently located where not many people were - I took advantage) where these people were selling Sugar Gliders. I got to pet one, very adorable. However, after reading the pamphlet the guy shoved in my hand, I feel bad for the poor critters. They are marsupials whose native home is in AUS, Indonesia, New Guinea and live in rain forest like areas.

These guys were selling the cuties at almost 600.00 for 1 which included what they called a 'started kit' with cage, food, etc. I wonder how many people actually bought into it

After leaving the adorable little micro mini squirrel looking animals, I couldn't help but wonder why would they sell Sugar Bears (as they called them) other than for profit? I just think they should be left alone in their natural habitat. I mean the people never mentioned anything like they were endangered and were trying to re-populate them in some weird way or anything.

I like animals, but don't think that something that is native to the wild should be pushed on the general public - especially on the good ole US holiday of black Friday.

So you pay 600.00 for the Sugar Glider, a cage to shove him/her in, and set some food and bedding on the bottom and that's it...

600 is way too much for any animal but sugar gliders who are raised in this enviroment probably do best in it, i am a huge animal lover and prefer all animals to be in the wild but i realize its not the way of the world.... so i just gotta make sure people are educated on them and treat them well

It's abhorrent, but for some people profit is the only reason.
