Kandyjet:
I too suffer from craniofacial HH. All of my excessive sweating occurs from the neck up. Although all HH is bad, I feel that this type is especially bad because there is no way to hide it. But I agree with Sean, ETS nor suicide is the right solution.
What has helped me is taking Robinul (or Advert) orally along with using the Secure (glycopyrrolate) Wipes on my entire face and neck in the morning after showering. This has been a tremendous help. I still sweat but much more like normal people do. If I know I am going to be in a situation where an HH episode is very likely I will reapply the wipes to my face later in the day and take a second Advert pill.
Kandyjet, what are the main triggers you encounter that set off an HH episode? For me it's any physical activity, stress or anxiety, high humidity and heat, any foods even mildly spicy and even the smell of spicy foods.
Also, my HH started around age 11 or 12. I am now 45 and my HH has continued to get progressively worse with age. In just a matter of minutes (without the meds) I can go from dry to looking like someone dumped a glass of water over my head. So I fully understand how you might feel but in spite of this disorder I am happily married with kids, have a successful career and enjoy life to the fullest. So don't throw in the towel! Instead, towel off and find a treatment that works best for you.
IM me if you want to talk more about this. Best wishes!

I need to read more about it in the forums but has anyone had success with ETS? There seems to be an overwhelming bias against it. Why do the doctors offer it as an option. I've had no luck finding a doctor who even knows what HH is (I learned about it in this forum). They just say my sweating is no big deal, that I'm too fat and out of shape etc. I've had it from a young age and its suddenly getting worse (I'm 57) and its threatening the limited social success that I have an managed to achieve. My doctors won't prescribe anything, the Canadian Pharmacy won't sell me Avert because I admitted on my referral form that I am taking blood pressure medication. Nothing else has helped and my scalp, neck and face are causing me constant embarrassment to the point that I've withdrawn from nearly all people and activities.
Honestly, I've heard nothing but bad things about ETS. Nearly all the cases I've heard, the patient regrets it, and warns others not to do it. Also, don't underestimate the awfulness of body-sweat too. I've had days when my back and chest were literally drenched, soaking through my shirt; and other days when my legs and thighs were bad too. It's quite embarassing to say the least. I wouldn't risk the compensatory sweating that ETS causes in those areas.
For me, I've had success this year in controlling my facial (and body) sweating. I got so sick and tired of it controlling me, getting me depressed, and ruining my social life. So I came up with a combo to attack it with brute force. Here's what I use:
Avert (also known as Robinul). At first when I tried Avert last year it didn't work for me, but I realize now it's because I didn't take it on a fully empty stomach. Now I have sweating reduced by at least 80% by taking a 2mg pill (or sometimes two 2mg pills on a very hot day) two hours before eating, and two hours after eating. The Avert also works for the entire body.
Klima. The company Klima makes an antiperspirant for the face called Facade. It doesn't use aluminum chloride, but instead shrinks the pores in your skin on the face, blocking out sweat. I apply the Klima Facade lotion once per day, and it helps keep me dry.
Drysol. I use Drysol mild because the extra strong one burns like a b**** on the face. I applied this at first for four days in the week, then by the second week, I apply it twice.
Sage. I drink Sage tea daily. It's been used a lot, especially in Europe, to reduce excessive sweating (and hot flashes for women in menopause... lol). Something in the plant's properties keeps the body dry. I drink at least one cup of Sage tea per day, along with green tea.
Lastly, hypnosis. I bought an mp3 geared towards hyperhidrosis from the website hypnoshop.com In the past I used hypnosis to deal with social anxiety, public speaking and depression and it helped; and I think it does for sweating too.
So with all of this, my sweating has reduced by at least 80-90%. I hope you can try at least a few things I suggested before going through with ETS (and definitely don't kill yourself over this; you deserve to live). Don't discount the natural remedies and hypnosis either. Because when I combined all these treatments together, my sweating problem is practically gone and I feel normal again.
Hope this helps.

Well I think the pharmacist advised that the daily dose should not exceed 8mg per day.Hai sean_rurner,
two hours before eating, and two hours after eating mean, you do this for all the 3 meals and having 2x3=6 2mg pills a day?
