Hyperhidrosis for feet, back of thighs and the butt!
For those suffering from these two types of HH, I can recommend using iontophoresis to reduce the sweating. I've spent a lot of time and thrown a lot of money away on things that didn't work or weren't as effective. Of course you may not achieve the same results I do, but chances are, you and I aren't that different and you will get the results you want.
Please let me know your results because I would like to see people get help for their condition. I've gone through a lot of frustration and also have suffered from a lot of depression because of HH. I wish I would have known about the condition and the treatment for it a long time ago.
Here is what works for me:
I bought a DC power supply (30 Volts max) and used that as my ionto machine.
For my feet I use two shoe plastic shoe containers and gutter guards I bought from Home Depot. I cut the gutter guards for each shoe container. The objective is to cut one long strip to cover the entire bottom of each container and bend one end of each strip so that the metal can stick out of the container on one end. The part sticking out of the container will be where you will clip your alligator clip test leads. The black lead goes on one container and the red will go on the other.
Then you get baking soda and salt and put about 2 tablespoons of each into each of your containers. You can put more or less in, but the point is to make your water bath conductive. Next you can add warm or hot water to each container and have the level of water be enough submerge the soles of your feet. If you sweat from the top of your feet, then add more water until your foot is submerged. Make sure you mix up the water so that your baking soda and salt dissolves.
After that is done, you may want to put some Aquaphor or vaseline on your toe nails. The current tends to make them sting and the vaseline blocks it. Don't put the vaseline on the soles of your feet because you don't want the current to be blocked from that part. The current is what will reduce the sweating! When you are ready, you can put your feet in the water bath and make sure your soles are touching the metal and keep them there for the duration of the ionto session.
When it comes to the voltage, you should use as much as you can tolerate, but I wouldn't go beyond 30 volts. I use about 25 volts for one hour (30 minutes each polarity). The amperage I use is about 1-3 milliamps.
The length of time for your sessions will vary depending on your severity of HH. You will have to gauge how much time is necessary for your condition.
Be aware that you may need to have sessions every day for one to two weeks before you start to get the results you want.
After you achieve the dryness you want, you can start doing maintenance sessions which will likely be once or twice a week. The length of time for the maintenance sessions again will vary upon your condition. You will need to experiment!
Now, if you want to get your groin, then here is what you do:
Buy an absorber towel you would typically use to dry your car with. They hold water well, and that is key for it to work for you. Get a large one so that you can cut it to the size you want. Keep in mind that only the parts of your skin that touch the towel will receive the current from the ionto, so make sure you have enough to cover the parts you want to treat. Buy some nylon rope because it will get wet and it will be much easier to untie than regular rope. You will use the rope to secure the towel to your body and provide the necessary pressure to deliver the current to your skin. The rope I have is long enough so that I can sling it over my shoulder and have it hold the towel in place without needing me to hold the rope up with my hands.
Get a about a foot of aluminum foil and fold it up to a long strip. This will be rolled up in the towel along with the rope and will serve as your conductor for attaching the alligator clip to.
When the rope and foil are rolled up in the towel, you then need to get a fresh water bath with baking soda and salt to soak the rolled up towel in. It is important you do this because you need to make a solution that is conductive which is what will make the towel conductive. Then in a standing position, place the rolled up towel between your legs so that you can take care of your groin with iontophoresis. It has to be one of the most embarrassing moments in my life when I am standing there with this home made contraption. However, since it nearly stops my sweating, it's worth it
The next step is to get one of your feet in the water bath mentioned earlier and clip one of the leads there and one of the leads to the foil. You'll be standing with one foot on the floor and one foot in the water bath on top of the metal gutter guard. The towel will be between your legs. Start your session! Use a voltage that you can tolerate. When you switch polarities, keep the same foot in the water bath. You will be able to treat one foot and your groin at the same time. Again, your session length will vary depending on your condition.
