Losing My Best Friend

I used to have 2 best friends, but unfortunately, I'm down to one. The friend who I'm losing (I'll call him C) has been my friend ever since we were 5 years old. It seems like we've been through everything together, but now we haven't spoken in 3 months. C's drug use is to blame for all of this. I usually try not to judge people for that sort of thing, but I notice that it makes C a terribly worse person. I can't stand to be around him when he's high. C's "new" friends are a bunch of shady characters who are leading him down the wrong path as well. It's so damn painful to know that I'm practically losing a brother. Having SA complicates things even further because I have an extremely hard time confronting him about this problem.

Can any one give me advice on what i can do to get my friend back? Or should I just accept the fact that hes not going to change?

Know what your going through. Lost my best friend of seven years when I stopped doing drugs. She still wanted to live that live, and so we stopped talking. It been three years since we have spoken, I would try to contact your friend before you let years go by. I don't know what to tell you about the drugs...

I was in almost the same situation once. I had two best friends from when I was 6 to when I was in high school, "M" and "S". They both went down a bad path with drugs and, as you so aptly called them, "shady" new friends. I slowly lost communication with them through high school, though I kept up with "S" more than "M".

Last year "M" died in an overdose, and it was heartbreaking, to say the least. Around the same time, I've permanently lost contact with "S" since he apparently has to keep moving around to avoid trouble and we just have nothing in common now.

It's sad, the different trails that some take. I don't know what advice to give you, but if you don't want to drift away from them or for something worse to happen, I would imagine you should be proactive. Of course, if you see there is nothing you can do, get yourself out of that situation before you also get entangled in it.

Sad stories guys. :( Drugs are evil, you can't do anything about it I think. You can contact him and try to convince him to stop taking drugs, but the chance he'll listen to you ...
