Looking different in different places?

This is always been a big issue for me. At home when I get ready to go out, personally, I think I look really good in the mirrors. My eyes have a bright color, my skin looks smooth, and my face overall is perfect. But when I go out and see other mirrors, I look soo different and uglier. Especially store mirrors. My skin looks pale, blemishes noticable, eyes have an ugly color, and my chin looks prevalent..?

This is why I find it hard to talk to people outside of home, the thoughts of my ugly reflection creep in and I can't even look at them. Does anyone else have a problem like this?

Yeah, but I honestly think it just depends on the mirror and the lighting in the environment. Even just around my house I look different in different mirrors. I think it's normal and not something to worry about. Unless you mean you only look nice at home and every mirror in the outside world makes you look bad... :p If that's the case maybe you should try getting ready in a small portable mirror close to the window so you can use natural sunlight. I do that sometimes.

You know what it is? ****ing Fluorescent Lighting. Seriously. That stuff is unnaturally white, bright, like you're standing under a spotlight. (Holy crap, I rhymed that whole sentence through!)

But seriously, You. Are. Beautiful. You are content with how you look when you walk out of the front door? That's how you look all day. You are beautiful! Don't let new-age lighting discourage that. Fluorescent lighting is evil... Let's go blow up a mall. I'll help you.

I think most of all it depends on the lighting, the more the worse, also fluorescent light is bad, esp. over your head.

I know what you mean, the ugly pale light that makes you look like a puffy ghost with hollow eyes. This is the reason I hate shopping for clothes. It can make me feel so insecure once I get out of the store. I also had this when I had an internship, and there was fluorescent lighting. I just felt so ugly there that I sometimes went to the toilet to make sure I looked okay.

I once heard that they purposely make the lighting in stores that it makes you look ugly, so you want to buy nice clothes. Especially cheap stores do this.

This is so embarassing, but I have actually noticed that a particular bathroom at my college has amazing lightning, so when ever I need to do my business I will always go to that one, just to get that little confidence boost haha. *ashamed*

Hah, I've done the same thing. It's a psychological thing. I don't think it's something to be ashamed of, probably a lot of people do it. *shrug*

Really? I thought the other way round that if they want to sell, they put flattering lights. I also tend to buy things if the lighting is flattering because they seem to suit me more, while if it makes me look ugly, it puts me off buying just anything.

Totally. Like others said it's mostly the difference in lighting, but I also see myself differently from time to time regardless of the locations lighting. I can definitely relate to not wanting to talk or acknowledge people at those times, as looking at them means they'd be looking at me, and that's the last thing I want when I feel crapola about my self-image. I just wish I could feel good about myself and what I see, but it's a work in progress lol.
