I can't even befriend my cousin

I have a cousin who is the same age as me and he is actually very, very similar to me. I honestly don't know if he considers himself to be shy or have social anxiety, but I do know that he has no friends and stays home all the time, and I'm pretty certain he's never been in a relationship like me.

We went to my younger cousins birthday party last night which got me thinking about this. Cause whenever we go to family things we get along great and are always talking about similar TV shows, movies, music, pop culture topics, etc that we both like. I swear we could be great friends, but we never really hang out outside of family events.

It's just so weird. Like, if I can't even become friends with my own cousin, how can I make friends with new people I don't even know?

If he has social anxiety, perhaps he wants to hang out outside of family events but feels nervous about it. Perhaps you should invite him to do something with you. :)

Some of my cousins don't like me and blatantly embarrass me so befriending them is out of the question. I have a guy cousin who is very nice and friendly, and I used to play with him when I was a child. Now, I'm more socially withdrawn and my social skills suck, so I'm not sure how I can go befriending him without sounding all awkward and weird.
