Help! Should I tutour these kids?

As an act of impulse I posted an ad saying I would give people extra help with their school work if they needed it. To my suprise I got a reply from someone saying that they need a student to help their young kids keep up with their school work. Now that it's become a reality I'm wondering if I should back out! I'm not very good with kids, when I smile at them they give me strange looks lol. Should I do it or not? It might be that the person finds a better tutour, but your replies might help me when I feel like backing out of something else in the future.

(Also, do you think I would be able to fit this in ok with my study at university? I am about to enter my second year. And I'm not even thinking about being a teacher after uni.. should I do different work that might support my career path better? :/)

I think it's important to show that you are diverse in your skills (ie tutoring when your career path is something different than teaching) however, tutoring kids can be really challenging and time consuming. Perhaps you can try it for a short time and then if it isn't for you, you can always use the reason of 'falling behind in my studies' to get out of tutoring anymore.

**i say showing you can be diverse in your skills is important because when I hire people, i review EVERYTHING they've done with their job choices and volunteer work. If I come across someone who spent time working with kids, I ALWAYS put them on the top of the pile bc i know they've got patience to a point and they're willing to take on a challenging role.

If you're doing good at uni, you're good with kids and if you need/want the money I think it's a great idea. I know some people that tutor kids in my class and they say it's a great way to make money doing something you like

Thankyou I would like to try it, I don't think it's going to happen now because the person is asking me if I have any experience which I don't. But still, I have to learn to push myself more and stop avoiding things!
