Sometimes I cannot even bring myself to speak to people outside my nuclear family.

Anybody else experience this? I believe it's called Selective Mutism.

I was like that as a kid. Think of it this way, you have to say enough to where your muteness doesnt draw attention to you.

It already has drawn plenty of direction in my area, but thanks :D

that part sucks! its so ironic, break the habit as soon as you can. if you say one complete sentence to each person you have to be around on a regular basis, it will prevent the questions like, "can you speak english?"

Oh man, that just brought back a memory or two that I'd forgotten all about until I read that. I've had one or two people ask me that, before I entered highschool.

After high school, I've also had a couple of guys make me cry because they just blurted out (in front of large groups of people, no less) "What's wrong with you!? Are you mute???"
