Does anybody know if SA is considered a mental disability that might fall under pre-employment descrimination (In the U.S.)?

I'm just... curious :D

Disabilities usually disqualify you from working... like... you're disabled because you can't work... that's why I have social security disability income. If you got a job then you wouldn't be considered "disabled" anymore or whatever unless it's a specific employer that gets benefits for hiring the mentally handicapped.

I don't think you meant to call it a disability... but something that should not be used in order to discriminate- such as age, race, gender, religious affiliation, etc.

Well yes, but then there is a law where employers cannot base their decision of not hiring you on "mental disabilities", UNLESS you are actually too disabled to perform the essential job duties such as you sited - which I am not. Just wondering if SAD might be considered one of those mental disabilities.

Is SA not somewhat of a mental disability? As in Disorder/Disability, or am I just overreaching there? lol

It is a mental disorder/disability... but what I meant was that you aren't questioning whether it is a disability, but whether it is a disability that would qualify in the "protected" category of disabilities covered by anti-discrimination laws.

I don't know if this will help or not...

Thanks for the link. It was informative, but unfortunately, didn't really specify what kinds of mental disabilities were or were not covered. I checked the definition of disability as it applies mentally and saw this statement:

"Such impairments may include physical, sensory, and cognitive or intellectual impairments." Sounds like SA could be included, but still in the grey area. I guess the point is moot -_-

But hey, now I really gotta thank you for that link, lurknomore. Through it I found out that I may have Cognitive Dysfunction.

Ya. Either way, it's pretty pointless. I guess I'm just getting desparate from all these failed interviews... ::eek::

I hear ya. I graduated in May, and still haven't found a job within my chosen career field. The only interviews I can seem to ace are for crappy minimum wage jobs. ::(:
