Daily struggles

Hi guys,

I'm just wondering how everyone is. Do you all struggle with tasks that non-HH sufferers usually thrive on? I am a masters student and my whole lab go out for lunch once a week and sometimes go out to the cinema etc. but I never go due to fear of breaking out in sweat from walking to the restaurant or cinema -- please tell me I'm not the only one who avoids these sort of situations? I have to go to the Christmas dinner on the 16th of December and I'm nervous about it because it is a 15 minute walk (not that far, but far enough to sweat when I get in the warm restaurant). I no longer drink either because that usually makes me hot and causes me to sweat and get red cheeks. How are we suppose to so******e like this? When everything is a problem.

You are absolutely not alone. I avoid almost every social situation. And I have no idea where all this is going...

I guess we all have choices. I chose to be more social as I aged. Most people are quite understanding when you tell them about HH. When I was growing up HH (palmer, planter) was thought to be more of a nervous condition. These days everyone has something or some sought of condition.

The more you share with others about your HH, the easier it MAY become for you. I think young kids and teens have it the hardest with HH. Adults are more tolerant for the most part.

I take my med that helps a little bit (Oxybutin aka Ditropan) and then I try to explain to people why i sweat so much. Yes, I skip out on many functions due to the sweating.

As a nurse, for some odd reason the second I put on gloves (which I have to do all the time) the sweat pours off my head and drips onto the floor. My patients look at me like I am the one who is sick..

I live in humid and hot *** florida. I have avoided soooo many social situations through high school and college. It has destroyed my life and left me lonely. I am nearly completely isolated. It sucks because I am a decent looking guy and could have a decent life but HH has destroyed it. :(

Hi, I tend to avoid social situations as well, however there is a limit to how much you can do that without being viewed as weird or a loner. I am at the stage where I have accepted my HH wouldn't be cured so I am living with it, I have never told anyone about it and I don't plan to. I think sometimes we just have to suck it up and go out and try to be normal, if people ask questions just agree with them, that's what I do when someone tells me I am sweating.

how about a wearable ice pack or cooling vest? (like the ones athletes use to ice down their joints/muscles) You could put it on, underneath your clothes, before walking with your co-workers. Would that help with your body getting hot?

I do all sorts of elaborate/strange tactics to cover up my sweating.

Of course you are not but unless you Decide to Take Action, the things you are experiencing now won't go away.

Can really relate to some of the posts on this thread, I certainly find that hyperhidrosis causes me to hold back from an awful lot of things, very cruel and underrated condition. :-(
