Advice needed on Iontophoresis

Hello Everybody,

I'm a severe palmo-plantar HH sufferer since childhood, and as I age, it tends to get worse perhaps because of anticipatory anxiety and the well known cycle of sweating - anxiety- more sweat etc.
I've tried oral drugs (propantheline) and topicals (driclor) with some success. The limitations being that they do not last long and the intolerable side effects especially with the oral medication which we all aware of.
I used Drionic for some time but it never worked for me. I didn't try other machines because they were very expensive. But now, I thought of trying another iontophoresis machine and my questions are which is the best machine currently available, what would the success rate be if i adhere to the treatment schedule and does the effect ie, degree of dryness weans off with time despite being adherent to the treatment schedule?

Hi
I currently use the Hidrex 1000.
My feet were completely dry within 2 weeks and just have to do 15mins every 2 weeks to maintain that.
Unfortuately, my daughter has used it for her hands but has had no success with it in 4 months!
When I was looking to purchase a machine, the majority of the advice I recieved here said to make sure it was a pulsed device not direct current as it's much more comfortable.
Good luck in what you choose.

Thanks for the reply ukchick.

Its well known that there is considerable difference in the effectiveness of iontophoresis. Glad that u had great success and has spaced out treatment schedule one every two weeks. That's awesome. Too bad it doesn't give good results to your daughter. Does she stick to the treatment schedule?
Seems like I've to hope for the best and go ahead trying an ionto device. If it works then, well....All new life again! But even if doesn't work I wouldn't worry because I've now accepted the sweating as 'normal'. Long gone are the worrying days...

My daughter has completely stuck to a schedule with the machine, totally devoted to get it to work for her. I have recently ordered Dehydral and Secure wipes as she feels so low about her hand sweating. With everyone's help on this forum,I'm staying postive and tell her that we will get something to work ,that we will not give up until we've found something to help her.
Good luck

I use the RA Fischer device. They have an option where you can rent it for a month to see if it works for you before buying it. That might be a good options for you.

I'm so sorry to hear the treatments aren't working for your daughter. Do you know what type of water is in your area i.e. hard or soft.

Has your daughter tried doing treatments just once every few days instead of everyday....overdoing ionto can cause more sweeting as well I think. I'm not sure what else I can say if she's going to try dehydral and secure wipes along with the ionto treatments, hyperhidrosis sure does suck (I know from experience) ::(:

You could maybe try changing her diet and exercise more....its a long shot but some people have had results from changing there lifestyle.

The only other options are botox and ets, and you probably know the pros and cons of those already.

U may try oral drugs like Avert, Robinul for your daughter. The drug propantheline is bit less effective but a lot cheaper. They are effective in controlling sweat. U may consult a doctor prior to use of these drugs. Has to be taken in empty stomach. The cons are that the effect is short lasting from 4 to 6 hours, and if taken with meals their action is unpredictable. They may not work at all, sometimes. Dryness of mouth and throat can be very uncomfortable. And in my case I get a severe headache at times which makes me avoid the drug for couple of days.
