What work do people with OCD do?

I am amazed at contributors' quotes and short poems; they have incedible insight into this condition. I am interested about what type of education and careers everyone might have. I have a professional degree. Looking forward to getting to understand our group a bit more.

The good news is that OCD sufferers tend to be highly intelligent. Yay. A silver lining.
I am a scientist and a writer.
What do you do?

Health care. Actually, before my diagnosis, the place I had the least OCD was in office. If I kept my mind busy, I did really well. Once I was home with new babies and then doing part time work, the stuff got a lot worse (probably due to hormone changes too). Since diagnosis, I take meds and psychotherapy and I am doing great.

We are hard to treat because of how intelligent we are; we are engineers, scientists, health care professionals-once we feel good we try to get off the meds. I tried that and it just doesn't work for me (despite the $170 per hour fee I pay for psychotherapy! and all the cognitive work I do). I love my meds and am quite happy to take them forever. I had enough trauma from the 25 years I went undiagnosed. I don't want to give up my (mostly) quiet mind.::eek::

In any case, I am currently a freelance writer, but I'm working as a cart associate at a local grocery store in order to pay off my student loans.

When I had all the violence obsessions running through my head I thought I would make an excellent horror writer-but I did not want to add more horror to the world! Thank goodness the horrors are pretty well gone....

Thanks for posting!

Well, as for education, I am pursuing my goal to be a Java game programmer. I am still a novice sadly, but so far, I am learning how to draw Isometric Game Worlds..

I like this quote. My English teacher always thinks of Shy people(As an OCD sufferer, I am shy) as the most creative and well thought people.
