Hey!

I think you need a presciption to get access to betablockers. (At least in my country) And depending on the brand, it should be able to help with physical signs of nervousness, trembling in particular. So there are very good chances that a beta blocker would work just fine in your situation. I have heard the brand Propranolol works best if you only needs it occasionally, like giving a presentation for instance.

Hey,

I went through the same thing, I tremble terribly with presentations. I saw my doctor about it and he prescribed antenex. The first time I took it it worked really well, but then the more I took it the less efecctive it became. I guess for a one time use with quick results its helpful.

Thank you but how often can we use it?I mean it mustn't be used long.I heard that it's dangerous to use it frequently, isn't it?But two times a month
is enough for me. And I wonder sth.İf I don't often use it, does it work or will its effection decrease?

The very first time it works the best. It makes you feel so calm. But yes its effectiveness does decrese. But since you will only be using it about twice a month it should be ok. Yes you do have to be careful because it is addictive.

Turn up the heat? Just kidding. I personally wouldn't rely on a medication - it's all pretty habit-forming and can have some unpleasant side effects. The only thing that's ever worked for me is making sure I knew my stuff thoroughly, by really studying what I have to present and doing it in such a way that I could talk about my subject to someone without having the paper there with me. I find it's not the presentation itself that worries people, it's the thought that your brain suddenly dries up and you don't know what else to say. If you learn about your material like it's something you're genuinely interested in, all you'll be doing is talking about it instead of presenting. That's a hell of a difference, at least to me.

I am not quite sure, but I haven't heard that Propranolol or beta-blockers in general are supposed to be habit forming, but it can cause some unpleasant side effects if you start using them often like everyday or even several days a week. It is after all used as a blood pressure medication, to prevent migraines and reduce physical symptoms of anxiety and used often it can cause side effects as cold hands and feet, tiredness and sleep disturbance which are the most common.

Often are doctors reluctant to prescribe medicines in the benzodiazepenine category because they are habit forming, beta-blockers on the other hand is usually not a problem as it should not lead to addiction. But you should consult with a doctor and ask him as you need him in the first place to get a prescription. Good luck! :)

I get trembling a lot too, in presentations but also...just being around people for too long gives me the shakes! I think it's because we try so hard to control what's going on, to keep up this front, to hide what you're feeling. That's what makes us tired and trembly. I've never been on medication for it. I think it may be better to go straight to the source of the problem, Social Anxiety.
