Xanax?

-Not sure it is available in the UK, but it probably is though, you might find it hard to get it prescribed to you cause its a benzodiazapine, like Valium (have a read about that class of drug)

-It relaxes you very well, much like alcohol. In fact it works on the same parts of the brain as alcohol so the effects are similar. It does not make you more social it just reduces anxiety.

-I take it probably twice a week. You can get addicted to it, so you can't be on it all the time.

-You can before social events, but no you can't use it everyday.

-Side effects are lethargy, everything feels a bit slower, amnesia (if you take a high dose). If you get addicted you will have withdrawals.

-Effects takes about 45min to 1 hour.

My adive would be to take an SSRI like Paxil or Zoloft and see how that goes. Xanax cannot be a front line drug, its very effective but it has drawbacks eg addiction if use wrongly. SSRIs are not that bad regardless of what you have heard. I take Effexor-XR and use Xanax occasionally. The bottom line is Xanax is a good drug but with shortcomings.
