Have you tried the chat room? Sometimes it's empty, but if you stick around and say "Hi" to people who enter then you'll be able to chat.

No you dont but remember people on here have social phobia and it can be difficult for us to talk to anyone even via messenger or PM

I struggle constantly with messenger and barely can use it
