What to say when calling psychiatrist..

I have a huge list of psychiatrists in the area, but I need to call and see which is most likely to be able to help with my SA and Depression. I don't even know what to say when calling! Will I talk directly with the psychiatrist? Do I ask for him/her if someone else answers? Overall, just what do I say? I've never been to a psychiatrist or any type of therapist before.

Hey there FOI,

I dont know about the US, but in canada when you call, or in AB anyway, you talk to a receptionist first. they generally just ask basic q's, your name, sex, age, ect. They may briefly ask if you have a specific condition/thing you need to see them about, others will not. Either way if you say you would rather discuss that with the phsyciatrist they will respect that.

again, being in canada i dont know how the system works south of the border, but im sure its somthing similiar.

Say something like

"hi, I'm looking for a psychiatrist to help me with my social anxiety, could you help?"
