What if everything was reversed?

By everything I mean if SA was the social norm. Does that mean everyone that was generally outgoing would be considered odd and awkward? How different humanities social structure would be if that were true. Would that mean that everyone without SA have to rely on CBT or medication etc. to get through life?

Just an interesting topic I thought of to ponder about.

I like your thought, to put the boot on the other foot for a change :)

Interesting topic to ponder about but i would make a couple of points. First of all i dont think that sociability is a conventional norm but is an inherent trait of the human nature and society. So following the same line of thought i dont think SA could in reality be the norm. Also its a contradiction of terms to speak of a SA characterized society. If, for discussion sake, SA would be the norm, the society would cease too function.

Everyone afraid to make a mistake? No extroverts? Lack of spontaneity? World full of analysers instead of doers?

No thanks. Hell on Earth!

Oddly enough I agree with what you predicted. I guess my question is just derivative of all the times that I've been pointed out to be "quiet" or "shy" and I just wish that I was being a what is considered "normal" at social gatherings (if I can drag myself to them). It would be a refreshing change.

I guess if I rephrased my initial question from "SA" to "introverted" would that make a functional society?

its difficult to imagine. its the outspoken people that shape society through their influences on others.

introverts may bring a better/different understanding, but they only tend to influence themselves.

however I do like the role reversal idea. its good to be able to look at things objectively for better perspective.

somebody would probably still be trying to decide which rock would make the perfect club

and the mammoth hunt would have to be cancelled due to lack of participation

You'd hear people saying things like...

"Why do you talk so much? You never shut up! Weirdo!"

and

"You spent the weekend doing things with other people? That's an odd thing to do. Didn't your presence annoy them? Didn't you stop to think that maybe they'd have preferred it if you weren't there? You do realise that most people prefer to be left alone, don't you?"

and

"So I was out in town, minding my own business, and this guy who was just walking by smiled at me and said 'Hi'."
"Did you know him?"
"No. That's just it. I'd never seen him before, but he made eye contact and just spoke to me like we were already friends or something!"
"What a freak!"

:)
