What form of Anxiety do I have ?

Hi,

I'm new to this forum and thought I'd get some help since for the past couple of months I've been plagued by thoughts of my family getting sick or contracting a disease. I keep thinking about it almost 24/7 and I'm also somewhat wishing that i'd get sick but yet I really really don't want to. I'm very much a germphobic as well and I obsessively wash my hands as well as bedsheets, clothes, towels, and take showers 2-3 times a day. I mean I don't want anyone to get sick yet here I am thinking about it 24/7 like it's going to happen any minute now.

I guess I'm trying to ask what form of anxiety do I have ?

- i tend to worry about getting sick or other people around me getting sick
- i'm very much a germphobic.
- i worry all the time about someone giving me a disease/virus.
- i obsessively think about being sick or someone close to me being sick and am constantly wishing i had a way of protecting myself and others I care about, so i wouldn't have worry about it so much.

hey helloworld32, welcome to SPW! :D

it sounds that you might have Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD), because you have some of the common symptoms i have actually heard of. maybe you should research up on it, to see if you do? yours sounds like you're obsessed with hygeine. don't worry, there's plenty of others on this site with OCD.

hope you make some new friends here! :)

it sounds like OCD but none of us here are qualified to say of what u have. Even a real Dr. can't say anything about anyone over the internet -- and wrong diagnosis is definitely not good. So plz go find help from psychologist

Could be OCD with a side of paranoia.

Don't let these terms scare you, though. Don't think you're weird/crazy/messed up because of it, because you're the furthest from it. You might benefit from therapy, if you can work up the courage to get help. However, in the meantime, maybe you could try working on a hobby of yours or just experiencing enjoyment that can take away the pain of living with OCD - even if it's only temporary.

I'm very open to PM's as well - I've suffered with OCD for years (and yes, I'm completely cured), so you can always ask for the occasional advice/coping tips. Good luck, and remember this: It's a disorder, not a disease.
