What are your tricks?

When you're outside of work/school or just taking a walk, what do you do when you're in a situation you don't like, and you start becoming afraid or scared, for example when you're in a crowded location or you notice some ppl staring at you, etc...
What do you do to control the situation, to make it the experience a little more enjoyable?

What I do is try to act distracted, for example if I'm on a bus, I'll look trough the window, or If I have a magazine/book, I'll fake (or try) reading it.
Having a mp3 player w/ headphones also helps because normally I'll be more focused on listening to the music.
Also faking that I'm looking to my watch/using a cell phone.

But those are pretty basic stuff, and I feel that sometimes it's not enough. I don't know if everyone here needs to do these kind of calculations just to stay outside more peacefully lol, but those who do, do you have any secrets?

Thanks

I started a similar thread about disguises people use to hide themselves from everyone. This is pretty much me when I go out. Baseball hat with peak pulled down, sunglasses, big headphones and somtimes the pooches. The dogs work best because not many people like big dogs.

ummm...that disguise would NOT work if I were walking by:D i'd stare and want to talk simply bc it's attractive and attention grabbing to see a good looking man walking a big adorable dog.
sorry to ruin your illusion of having the perfect disguise. ;)

Same here. Back to the drawing board, DOA. :) Although, I must say, the Yankees hat is a major turn off. :D

When I am outside, I actually look people right in the face and smile brightly and ask them how they are, because I am mostly afraid of people staring at me with a disgusted expression and judging me badly. If I am nice to strangers, they generally smile back at me and think I'm a nice person, which makes me feel really relieved.
