'There is always hope' - A poem

There is always hope

The chains cling to my body,
Dragging me down,
Into a dark hole,
As I struggle to break free.

Plunging deeper and deeper,
Into an everlasting despair,
And now the chains are thorns,
Piercing through my skin.

Is this the end?
Is there no more?
Am I trapped?

These thoughts surround me
Push me into the darkness,
Blinding my eyes,
As they cut into my heart.

If only they would realise,
My strength has flown away,
The key to freedom,
Is soaring through the sky.

But has it truly left?
What if?
I could capture it once more?

And then I see roses,
Blossoming amongst the thorns,
So my heart begins to soar,
Gathering its strength from high above.

The chains crumble away,
As I look towards the sky again,
Wings sprout from my sides,
As I fly out of the darkness and into the light.
