The Metamorphosis

Has anyone else read The Metamorphosis by Franz Kafka? I love Gregor. I think it's really easy for people in our state to Identify with that. 0_o Plus I love how outrageously bizzare the whole thing is. And crazy-depressing. You KNOW a writer has done his job when by the time the story ends, you're ready to kill yourself. That is POINGNANCY, my friends!
Your thoughts, anyone?

I thought Metamorphosis was a little too drab. It's a good story, but Kafka simply had no sense of humor at all. I prefer writers that can be poignant with a touch of wit, like Shakespeare.

IMO, it works better as an allegory for homosexuality or for death than it does for social phobia. Although it's relatable to outcasts of any kind, I associate SP more with self-imposed seclusion, not forced exile.

Yes! Really great read. But my fav book is still fight club.

'An entire generation pumping gas, waiting tables: slaves with white collars. Advertising has us chasing car and clothes, working jobs we hate so we can buy sh** we don't need. We're the middle children of history, man--no purpose or place. We have no great war. No great depression. Our great war's a spiritual war. Our great depression is our lives.'

Damn! Could he have hit the nail on the head anymore!?

Oh, yea. Kafka can take a concept and just angst the living sh*t out of it! That's why I love him so.

I dont really relate the SA to Gregor so much as the depression and feelings of inadequacy, and crushing loneliness that SA brings.

I never really cared much for shakespeare. The writing is lovely, but people in love, doesnt thrill me. I do love Macbeth though.
