the definition of sa

How accurate do you think the definition of sa is? Do you think its off the mark? How would you define it differently?

A persistent fear of one or more social or performance situations in which the person is exposed to unfamiliar people or to possible scrutiny by others.
The individual fears that he or she will act in a way (or show anxiety symptoms) that will be embarrassing and humiliating.

The reason I ask is that it doesn't seem right, but I can't pinpoint why.

Are you guys afraid of embarrassing yourselves in front of people? Because that's in the definition. I guess thats what im asking. Do you even care what people think about you? You see, embarrassment is a key part of the definition. But I never see anyone talk about embarrassment on this site. Isn't that significant? or is it just my imagination?
I think it's a bad definition, and i wanted to know how other people define it.

A person who is concerned more about the pain of social interaction than with the joy or benefit of it.

I think I understand what Lorraine is trying to get at... are we afraid of embarrassing ourselves, or of just not being liked/accepted? Because I think those can be separate... you don't have to do something embarrassing/humiliating for people to reject you.

I think for some, maybe even most, individuals it could be both... but I could see someone not fearing the embarrassment, just the rejection.
