does anyone ever do this? I have a big problem with this. Maybe it's just the area I live in or something, maybe if I lived in a big city where I could just blend in with everyone it might be ok. or if I felt I didn't know anyone or anyone was going to recognize me. I also have body image problems :p. I know how much walking is great for exercises, or for anything but in my area it seems kind of intimidating. It's a shame. Can't take a jog. I could walk across the street.. well not all the time. Anything more.. nothing. maybe its the type of community, where everything is located, the sizes of the streets, the lack of foliage or places where I could hide lol.

sux..

I also have a problem going out and taking a walk, but only here where I live at. I live in newark and i hear a lot shit in the news of people getting shot in drive by shootings and people being beat to death, especially during this time close to halloween which is when most gangs have their initiations. I get home late at night and i am panicking the entire two blocks i have to walk from the bus stop. if i even see one person I freak out. once i saw a group of about 5 people and i just found myself running. anywhere else, I find myself comfortable taking a walk.

when i lived in a suburb i felt awkward going out in public. now i live in a big city and its much easier to feel like i blend in and nobody notices me.

I'd love to go for long walks and i used to when i lived in a rural area but then i moved to a town and find it so hard now. Taking my son to school around the corner is the longest walk i take nowadays. I wish i had the courage.

Going for a run is great for many things, such as reducing weight and generating feelings of well being. If you feel self conscious or restricted in any way, why not go out running very early in the morning? I used to go out running at five in the morning because I started work at seven. It was a great way to start the day. There was no traffic, no people and the streets were pretty much clear. This of course meant earlier nights, but that's no bad thing. If you really want to change, you can do it. If you want change sometimes you have to make changes. Why not give it a try?

I can completely relate. I prefer morning hours or cold and rainy days to get out. It's not just because I love such weather, but because there are no people. Another option is to go out in the dark. I prefer nighttime because people cannot see me. It sounds weird. But it's true. I have a plan to go out for a walk with a friend of mine after two days. We are going to meat just after sunset.

try walking at night when there is not many people around, but try to make it a mission, walk a long distance so you feel accomplished, and feel good about yourself, when your done tell yourself good job.

I used to walk 7 miles every 2 days it helped me sooooooo much.

I dont have much of a problem just running on a treadmill in a gym or even a track at a park but the street, or just walking I feel much more self conscious. People around here wake up very early too I think even at 5.

the night is really busy around here. Maybe it's because I live near a big street.

I get like that too. Just on Friday I went for a walk around my work, during my lunch break, and I felt sooo self-conscious. Like, I thought every car that went by was just staring at me.

Even when I take my dog out for a walk, there could be no one around, but it is still like I think someone is always looking at me. Like, as if they are spying at me from their window or something.

I try to challenge myself and walk everyday now, its a pretty busy street where I walk and I get anxious, I keep thinking the way I walk is strange...and people are noticing it and making fun of me, hence the anxiety....
