Sometimes they hire "laughers" to work in a studio audience, laughing hardest and at the top of their lungs for effect, and to rile audience members sitting next to them ... who probably don't wanna laugh but do so anyway just because these other strangers are hysterical.
I wonder if there are any other kind of situations where the same kind of principle is useful and where it occurs in plain sight. If it is a survival mechanism of bad programming, I wonder what other stinky fish this mechanism makes cover for.
