Social Anxiety (Cut out the Stimulants! )

To help with Social Anxiety I would highly recommened cutting out the stimulants in your diet. By this I mean Caffeine and tobacco or anything that acts like a stimulant. So that means Coffee,Tea,pop,tobaco and chocolates. This is going to be a hard thing for most but I found it really does help. It can take up to one whole month to come off caffeine and there will be withdrawl symptoms on the way. However after this period you can be just as energetic and mentally quick without caffeine. OK here's a bit of science: Caffeine has an effect on the adrenal gland in your body which secreates adrenalin. So your body is pumped and on edge. Adrenaline is linked to the flight or flight responce and this is how alot of people feel when anxious or when they start to panic. Cut the stimulants and I think you will feel alot better and be more calm dealing with situations.

Did you really need to post this topic 4 or 5 times? It is a good topic though because i drink shit loads of coffee. I find that when I wake up in the morning if i don't have a cup of coffee my anxiety is really bad. I've tried going a day without it but its just way to brutal, no energy and i can barely function at work. You're saying this would take a month to get over?

I don't use any stimulants. And this topic does not deserve 5 threads clogging up the main page hopefully some mod will delete these

If you need things to keep you awake eat fruit like apples and exercise in the morning, that'll get your heart beating and your mind ready as caffeine would. Also try and exercise daily this will get rid of any stress hormones like adrenaline that are floating round your body.

I get plenty of exercise as it is. I'll give the fruit thing a shot in place of the cup of coffee though.
 
I need stimulants. Well maybe not need, but they're very useful to me, because I need them in order to focus. If I don't have stimulants my mind is everywhere at once and it makes it even harder. They can actually help calm you down anyways, and get you more focused on things. They can actually help too, well for me atleast and it has nothing to do with an energy problem.

I like my caffeine =( I have had it almost every day for the last 6 years (since I was 13) I do notice the headaches and that if I don't have it for a while. If I miss it for a day, I just feel crap in general.

Thats a good point. However.... I work at starbucks.... Hahahhahha. My SA hasnt been as bad lately, and I have been drinking a shit ton of coffee but at times I know for a fact that it has aggrivated my anxiety greatly so I definately will take that into consideration and limit my stimulant intake. Oh, and I smoke cigs, too. Alot of them. Those usually help with my stress and SA but I have been wanting to quit... I guess...

Word. If i don't drink a cup of coffee before work my mind is in 6 different places. But on my brake I'll have one and I'm way more calm and not stressed at all. I think this idea is a.....
