Re: How long have you tried to get over social anxiety?

Hi,

I wonder how long any of you have been trying to overcome social anxiety? When I started seeing a Psychologist years ago, I was more optimistic than I am now about overcoming social anxiety. Then, of course I realised that either the Psychologist was no good or this thing is determined to stick. If you'r over 30 you'll probably be even more aware of what I'm talking about.

I'm 27. I've been trying to get over my social anxiety for a few months now. Things are going pretty well, and my self-confidence is much greater.

helo im 22 and have been working on my sa for 3-4 years now. at first i was really optimistic then things got more difficult and i fell back into the state of mind of ill never beat this. but recently ive bn a bit more optimism, ive realised that i wont beat my anxiety completely and that its part of my personality to be shy, so im workin on it not effecting my life.

dont think that makes a whole lot of sense.

I'm 23 and have been seeking help since I was age 11

at first I was sent to counsellors because I kept getting beaten up at school

then I was sent to a psyciatrist because I was depressed from being bullied at school and was struggling with self worth

then I was sent to a psyciatrist because I decided the best way to stop the bullying was to introduce my wrist to a steak knife

then I went to a series of doctors to try to combat my depression, fear of people and eventually socialphobia

today I pay a lot of money to a specialist to try to deal with all of the above issues

so I've been fighting a beast ever since I was 11 years old... its name might have changed a bit but to me its the same thing. But I do find it very frustrating and depressing that Ive been fighting this problem for longer than the duration of both world wars combined

I just hope that once I get through this someone will award me with a medal and those who bullied me and let this happen will be pulled up in front of the Geneva Convention and charged with war crimes

Hi,

Wow, you're stories have an impact. I think that bullying is one of the worst things that a kid can go through and it really does affect a person as an adult.

I genuinely believe that I would be in a full-time job of some kind now perhaps as a primary teacher if I didn't have this thing.

Do any of you feel unable to go to work because of this sa?

Ive had 3 jobs in the past, each one I was intimidated by the other females and bullied in at times, so I now have a job phobia. Working from home would be ideal for me at the moment.
