Rational emotive behavioral therapy?

Hi, I've been seeing a therapist and have been trying to get him to use CBT so I can eliminate my social phobia. After about 5 sessions I've finally convinced him that I do indeed have SP but he wants to do Rational emotive behavioral therapy instead.

Does this work as well as CBT? It appears to be newer.

He's the therapist, and if he says it's what you need, then follow his path. They are very similar therapies, the only difference being one deals with thinking processes and the latter deals with irrational emotions that your therapist believes needs to be addressed.

All you can do is give it a try, because switching therapists in the middle of counseling is like starting all over. Hang in there and see what comes of it. They say 70% of recovery for people like us lies within therapy, so you're on the right path. Keep going!

Peace

I remember reading something about it concerning the history of CBT. Like it's part of CBT? I think probably the behavioral part of CBT came from REB?
