I’m new to this site, so please forgive me if I’ve posted in the wrong place... I have really bad anxiety/panic attacks and mild social anxiety for years now... Lately though, I’ve noticed something new when in conversation with co-workers... I’ll be standing there talking to someone, nothings wrong and all of the sudden I’ll get this pressure around my ears, throat, neck, jaw, cheeks.. sometimes my eyes... Just an annoying feeling that is also somewhat uncomfortable.. It’s hard to explain... Kind of like the feeling you would get if you’d been whispering for a while or smiling for too long.. You know, when those muscles get tired and achy and I also feel a little out of breath... As soon as I walk away, it goes away and I’m fine. Does anyone else experience this? And if so, could you please try to explain what is happening to me when I get like this... I know I hold a lot of stress/tension in my neck and shoulders.. And I get tense when talking to someone who is not family or really good friends, could this be what is happening... I really appreciate your time in reading my post and any response is also very much appreciated.. Thanks.

I know when I'm around people I know but am scared of, (most people lol) my cheeks get really sore, like you said, as if I've been smiling for a while. I don't know why, sorry I can't help, but it helps me to get a drink, or dab some water around the areas it's affecting. I hope this can be useful for you, and welcome to the site :)

Hi, and welcome to the forums Stephanie :). What you are describing sounds a lot like a panic attack to me. There are medicine and exercises you can do to lessen the effects of these. You can read more about panic attacks HERE.
If these attacks continue you should contact a physician to get yourself checked out. I hope you get better.

Edit: I just realized that you said that you have had panic attacks before. Your symptoms may be an expansion of those attacks. Such attacks can be really painful and terrifying, but are usually harmless. If they continue you should get it checked out. Best of luck to you.

Panic Attacks not nice

Usually in stressful places where I have no control. Getting out of the situation is the plan. I hate excuses. This involves interviews or just in an office, or... long time ago... exams.

I become unable to function properly - writing with paper & pen, or at a keyboard. Usually one side is lost, making me fall over a lot. I do my best to hide the effects, which takes effort.

Starting the day getting dressed is often tough - top button! If I can't do that - the rest follows... no tie. Requires a lot of relaxation.

After getting home, sometimes I really get unable to remove tie, buttons, belt, shoes. Seriously. That is basic stuff. I get into a state when I just can't and have to relax. Glad I haven't yet ripped anything off to feel free.
