Phone Anxiety

I have always hating phone communication. I am shocked that I used to talk on the phone to friends when I was younger. Now that texting is an option, I dont do that.
As much as I dont like talking on the phone, waiting for a phone call is even worse. I am having a medical procedure in a couple of weeks. A nurse called and left a message. I called back this morning, but was not able to talk to a nurse at that time. I requested a call back early this afternoon, since I had plans this morning (I am off work today). I missed the nurse's call back, so I again returned the call, and have been waiting for almost 2 hours for them to call back. I can't do anything till I finish this 15 minute phone call. I haven't had lunch, for fear I would be in the middle of cooking or miss the call.
Anyone else experience this? How do you cope with impending phone calls?

My dentist sent me something in the mail a week ago asking me to call them to schedule my next checkup. I keep putting it off and spending my days dreading it. Wish I could afford to switch to one with a website.

Waiting on anything with nebulous timing wears me down with the constant anxiety, whether it's a phone call or the apartment maintenance guy saying he'll come by sometime between 9am and 5pm. The several rounds of phone tag you did would make it worse of course, that'd bother anyone, but good for you for being able to make those calls.

Edit: Finally worked up the nerve to call the dentist, and they didn't answer (voicemail).
