Oxybutynin not working?

Hi all,

Suffered with generalised all over HH for the last few years (at least I think I have), but it's got a lot worse than ever before this year - no idea why?

I saw my Doctor, had a blood test for thyroid/hormone checks - I'm deficient in vitamin D (quite severely) however he doesn't think that would be a cause? Everything else was as normal.

After doing some research he was happy to prescribe me with Oxybutynin (2.5mg tablets) - I started off taking 2.5mg in the morning.. no effects what-so-ever. So I upped my dosage to 5mg in the morning - little to no effect. I'm not even getting side effects - perhaps a little dry mouth, but then I've been a smoker for 10 years on 20 a day, so it's hard to tell the difference.

I'm now thinking about going back and trying Robinul instead as I've read some very interesting things online about it.

My HH only really effects me when I'm hot - otherwise I tend not to sweat at all. Obviously humidity, public transport etc all trigger it off, as well as going from the outside to the inside, but I just feel like I'm hot all the time.

At my wits end now as it's really getting me down and starting to take over my life.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated..

Thanks

Hi, I've just got the same mess Ditropan 2.5mg but I'm taken it 3 times a day its slowly working, but when I went out today my anxiety about them not working made me come straight home. Try taking it through out the day rather then over loading, let your body get used to it then up the dose if you still get small patches and aren't happy. That's what I'm going to do. How long have you been on then I've only been on 2 days so im new to the drug...

I'll try that instead.. I've been taking 5mg every morning on an empty stomach, with no effect.

I've been on it for about 2 weeks now with no signs of improvement.

Thanks

No operation, my hands and feet aren't that bad. It's mainly my chest, back, groin, occasionally head. When I'm really bad I'm clammy all over to be honest.

No matter how bad it gets don't do the sugery ok,, it just gets worse mind you I did have a couple of wks dry but now certain food sets me off. these meds reduce my sweats to feeling clammy.. they say there's another drug I can take if these don't do the job without taken stupid amounts of them. But I need to apply for medical funding.. how old are you?? I'm 26 in July wounder if age has any thing to do with how bad we suffer... I don't think its hereditary..

Hi

I looked at uk hh support group. There is a note saying oxybutynin modified (slow release) has less side effects and works better. However my GP advised there was no difference. I am asking the support group if they have any evidence . GP has prescribed 5mg twice a day oxybutynin. Note I have been using probathine , but in the UK there is a manufacture issue, no supply till 2013.

I'm going to try and get Robinul on the NHS now.

I'm really down with all of this at the moment, it seems to have got a million times worse in the last few weeks and I have absolutely no idea. I'm incredibly depressed with it all.

It seems that I'm just hot all the time at the moment, and now I've developed some anxiety issues, so perhaps I'll try anti-depressants too
