Found this site doing some random searches on shyness. I like it. Seems to offer alot of support.
What brought me here is the need to understand what is causing my shyness in social settings. My wife is very social and I'm quite the opposite. At parties I find a seat and stay there the entire time. I speak to no one and count the minutes before it ends.
As much as I loathe that type of behavior I cannot seem to shake it. I simply can't bring myself to talk to people confidentally in social settings. on the rare occasions I do, I do not know what to say.
I believe that most of my shyness originates from my body image. I'm a very thin guy; And have always felt less than when in public. I always try to hide my arms with long sleeves. As a kid I was was quiet but not shy. This shyness came upon me when I entered high school. With my wife being a social butterfly I have to find a way to cure my social shyness. Her friends already think I'm a weird guy.

This shyness is really handicapping my life. I want to bulk up but don't want to go to a public gym because I'm embarrased to show my body at a gym. When winter ends I wear long sleeves as long as I possibly can, I constantly look at my wrists and say "damn I'm skinny" to myself when I'm wearing short sleeves in the summer.

Looking forward to reading some thoughts on people who are in my boat.

You should have never come here! Its addicting... Run when you have the chance! Lol j/k, welcome!

I have no advise to give to you about your shyness, cos i have the same problem too, but to bulk up, you dont have to go to the gym, you can work out at home, thats what i do. Just buy some protein+carbonhydrate powders and do some push ups, weight lifts and stuff. Thats how i gained weight.

I used to be very very thin too, (was like 110 lbs, with 6 ft height, now im around 160) and yes getting some weight helped me build some confidence in social settings too.
