Hi there, I'm new! lol... :)
I think I have social phobia, I used to think it was shyness but I'm pretty sure I know what it is now. Whenever I talk, I can never think of anything to say. And I'm always positive that everyone else is looking at me. I hate it so much. I'm thinking of getting Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. Has anyone tried that??
I don't like to think that people think I'm a weirdo because if they say something I just kinda go 'ahah, yeah...'. I do it ALL the time. I can talk ok with my family but when it comes to other people it's soo awkward. And even if I'm walking down the road and a car comes past I get so nervous and look away  and I talk to myself and I think way too much :( I'm always thinking about something...

Also I just wanna ask, cause I wanna see if I'm alone on this or something...
Does anyone wish they were born in a different time? I constantly find myself uninterested in a lot of the fashionable stuff these days, and I much more prefer old fashioned stuff. (like if I had the chance I would love to wear one of those 19th century dresses everyday lol :D) and for some reason I love 80s fashion!! (lol big difference there) I think that's why I never seem to have anything in common with anyone :?

Hi, and welcome :) It sounds to me like you have social phobia. But I think it's perfectly normal to have an imagination (wishing you were in a diff era)

can a mod delete this thread?? I'm having second thoughts about it...
sorry

hey! i like this thread. don't be dissin'

interestingly enough, i think a lot of people feel left out because of exactly what you described - conformity. and i don't mean in a way of somebody who tries to be different just to go against the grain, but exactly what you said - having a different fashion sense, maybe even a different mindset and not wanting to give it up.

there's kind of an in between though. you can conform a bit to society yet still retain your individuality... (that's completely subject to interpretation). some people go all out and lose their individuality and become like everyone else... while others can't seem to change themselves to society's expectations. the important thing in life is to find that balance, and that's where you'll find your zen... the best of both worlds

thanks... :) yeah that's what I think about people too, I mean you don't want to be some sort of generic stereotype but I suppose you don't want to be a total outcast from the human race either lol :D i get what you're talking about :)

Lisa - I've tried CBT and yes it works well!

It helps you combat negative thinking patterns and improve your self assurance - the reality is that people are consumed by themselves most of the time - we just don't let ourselves believe this.

Good luck - the more you practice the better it will work.
