If any of you are looking for a job, let me suggest working as a home health aide for the elderly. First off, they are so concerned with their own ailments to focus on what’s going on with me emotionally. I can just baby them and ask them about themselves and they just go on and on. It’s nice when someone else does the talking. But it’s important to ask them the right questions that really get them going. ie their family. This is great exposure therapy plus you would be doing good for society. The majority of the people I see are good people…lived good lives and now just need to be taken care of. I know not everybody could do this line of work but it’s worth a try if you feel like graduating to the next step…that is if you are currently not working. Plus...very humbling...if you can handle it.
I spent almost a year living on my own without work (credit cards 8O ) And now I have met about 20 elderly people not including their family members.
Let me just mention that I find it easier making house calls rather than being cooped up in a hospital. There is a lot of freedom in it and you won’t be stuck with one person all day. Plus you get paid for your mileage and driving time. I’m going to stick with this job until I feel confident enough to finish speech class…thus getting my degree and then eventually applying to graduate school.
Just thought I’d throw the home health aide thing out there. Does anyone else have a good job for exposure therapy?
