I am going out tonight to a mate's house - she's invited some other friends too. I can't back out now - said I'm going. This could go either way for me, I could enjoy it or my SA could be an issue and make me feel awkward. Hope that's not the case. I'm really nervous....wish life could've been different -that I could be normal and enjoy events like these, not see them as an ordeal....... guess we just have to make the most of what we're dealt with.

Do you really like to be first..I'd feel naked like the center of attention (of course, if I was naked, I WOULD be the center of attention). I like getting to places fashionably late, then you can slip in un-noticed and then mingle around. Your approach is interesting. Don't you have to make small-talk with the others that get there first though? Yikes!

If you typically feel uncomfortable with one-on-one interactions, then arrive later. On the other hand, if your fear is of group interactions, arrive early. Just depends on the person's specific fear about socializing I think. Like I fear group situations but can almost talk to anyone if we are alone in the room. Others would feel differently.

i hate being first. i always like being quite late coz then i know a few people will be there and the pressure isnt on me to "entertain."

Hey thanks Maggie I'm the same usually. It was awkward for me at the start but got better and better as time went on and I did end up having fun. Plus it turned out to be a small gathering

hey SaharaWorld...glad you had fun...yeah, it's always most awkward for me at the first...so, if i'm going out to a friends house where they're having company....or, even if i'm going to my Mom's house for family gathering....cause i don't even feel comfortable there..and it's my own freakin family :evil: ...but i arrive early...like really early... and offer to help with something, whatever, gives me time to ease into situation...(maybe have a beer :wink: )... and greet everybody as they come in the door separately...for me it's easier that way than to walk in to everyone at once later on.... :roll:
