We've been talking for months and months and it's only this week he professed his love and asked if i could be his girlfriend. he told me he wants to make me happy and he's dedicated to me. i love him too...in fact i havent been able to sleep or eat much since all this happened  the site i met him on is qite a fun and sociable one. we have made tons of mutual friends on there all of who have congratulated us on being together and stuff. anyways sometime next year we're going to be meeting up....this is the part im scared of. I havent told him about my SA. Personally i feel that when i meet him im going to be quite comfortable with him bacause we've been talking for so long. But im worried about facing social situations with him like going out to restaraunts and going clubbing and stuff. No doubt thats what we're going to be doing when he comes over. im afraid he's not going to like me the way he likes the online me. I mean i am shy and stuff but when i really get to know someone i can be funny and outgoing....it doesn't happen alot though. it doesn't happen at all in fact. He's a sociable and handsome guy and we're going to be going places together and doing stuff for during the time he's going to be here. Do i tell him everything about me? or do i smother my social anxiety for the sake of making this relationship work? 8O I mean it;s going to come out sooner or later right? I dont have a romantic fantasy view on everything im actually quite skeptical about it all even though i've been experiencing all the symptoms of love, and he has been too  8)

If he's everything that you say he is then telling him about your anxiety is going to be alright. However, I would advise telling him in writing first.

Take some time to draft out what you want to say very carefully, but try to accentuate the positive and say that you want to get better and, hopefully with his help and support, you will be.

You're not hiding a shameful secret. You've not committed a crime. There's nothing to be ashamed of in telling someone you have social anxiety.

A real, true friend will be there for you, will understand and will do all they can to support, love and care for you.

All the best.
