Marijuana and OCD/Anxiety

So I am, for the most part, a daily MJ smoker. It doesn't really affect my life negatively so I can easily justify its use to help my anxiety, and in turn, my OCD. I can be having a day where I am suicidal all day and after a few hits I am happy. I'm no longer thinking about death. Usually, I get ambition to do stuff.

MJ affects people differently, some prefer to lay on their ass and watch TV. I prefer to be active, whether that means cleaning my apartment or doing laundry etc.

I'm telling you this not in the hopes that everyone reading it will take up smoking pot, but to see if there are others that do the same. Pot has done more for me than any medication I can think of. The only medication I take is clonazepam for anxiety (can't exactly be stoned at work!) and some allergy meds.

Agreed with your point about it varying between the individual. Near the conclusion of my very first obsession I began smoking bud daily and doing coke once in a while (in large amounts) and for several months I was OCD/anxiety free but eventually it turned on me and kicked the OCD into second gear. Drugs alter the chemical balance in your brain, and for the short-term you cannot tell this but long-term it will dictate what road you take. Obviously if it's not giving you problems that's fine, and everybody's different... but that's my experience.

Drugs will never be the solution, it's more like a temporary band-aid. But at least I'm not bleeding all over the floor ::eek::

Check out the medical marijuana thread link that Danfalc posted above. Lots of people shared their experiences in there.

The main things to remember when using marijuana medically for anxiety is to use strains of the indica variety, and be very conservative with your dose. A little bit goes a long way. Using too much often has negative effects.

Personally, I've found it very effective in treating my panic disorder. I primarily use it as a tool to relax after a long stressful day, and also to get me to sleep when insomnia strikes.

Peace
