list the meds you've taken and how they worked for you

Went on Zoloft about 7yrs ago for OCD... didn't really do anything much.
sereqel for a short time.. kinda worked.
Dexamphetamine when I was 14 and that definattly worked. Only problem was they were so good I ended up abusing them so I took myself off them.

The first medication I tried was Lexapro. I didn't like it because I felt exhausted the entire time I was on it. I actually slept 20 hours straight a couple of times. After that I switched to Zoloft and was taking 50mg per day for over a year. I don't think the dosage was enough, though, and ended up going back to my doctor to get a higher dose. Shortly after that I quit my job, lost my insurance and have been off of medication since then. I really don't like the side effects of them anyway, so I'm kinda glad I don't have to take them anymore.

try not to use medicines please. they are short term answer for long term problems. might as well just drink because when u stop the meds you are worse off then before. try to use therapy, relaxation techniques and positive thinking. ive been on meds from age 7 to 16 and im so glad to not be on them now. nearly all meds for under 18 yr old are class c meds, meaning they havent even been safely tested on animals. i cant begin to wonder how they affected my brain. and the only thing to make truly cured is livestyle changes.

That's only good for some people. Most people have a chemical imbalance in their brain that causes Social Anxiety, and possible depression. The first time I took meds for SA is the first time I felt comfortable in social situations. When I got off the meds, I felt exactly the same as before I took them. Meds help. It is no different than a diabetic taking insulin shots..

I use to work in a doctors office, so I tryed all the stuff like Paxil, Celexa Zoloft,Effexor and well I guess it helped a little but I still pretty much felt exactly the same. And then of course I saw a doctor that prescribed Xanax 3 times a day, which really wasn't a great idea, b/c then I started to depend on them. And started taking more and more, and it's true they do turn things into a fog. It's like hell maybe it helps you out soo much b/c you can't remember anything... haha And never drink with them that's for sure. Well anyways I don't take them anymore thank god. Oh yeah then I was prescribed Vistaril which works a little too, kind of like taking a Benadryl just makes ya tired...

yes cbt chemically changes your brain chemistry back to normal. 99% of the time depression and anxiety are curable man. its not like a psychotic mental problem, ive done research and for depression and anxiety all you need are lifestyle changes. changing your thoughts changes your chemicals. myself, i have used relaxation techniques, cbt, thought changes, and meditation and there is a HUGE improvement. drug companies want you to think there is no other answer so they can make money. CBT AND EXPOSURE TECHNIQUES ARE PROVEN TO WORK BETTER THAN MEDICATION TO CHANGE BRAIN CHEMISTRY.

The best "drugs" I had ever taken were alternative medicine "drugs." For instance, hypnosis can work as a "drug." I recently tried Natural Therapy for OCD (http://www.solutiontherapiesonline.com).

Although their program is badly writtern and a bit out of date  , it does seem to work. If one combines alternative medicine therapies, the effect will be greater on a person than if the same person was using only one alternative medicine therapy. It is all, however, common sense.

The program suggests the use of homeopathics. The most valuable thing about it is it tells you how to use homeopathic remedies without going anywhere else for treatment. It also explains how to use alternative medicine therapies together. For me, hypnosis works better than anything else.

I have a moderate OCD (mostly compulsive behaviors). They greatly interfered with my work. My anxiety is way down now. The occurrence of compulsive behavior decreased. I have been using the program for two or three months.

Haldol: Severe akathisia followed by extreme drowsiness.

Risperdol: Moderate akathisia followed by drowsiness.

Ativan: Relieved severe anxiety, allowing me to sleep. Discontinued because of addictiveness and possibly dangerous lack of anxiety.

Depakote: 100% useless. Physically dangerous without careful monitoring.

Valproic acid: Ditto. All the uselessness of depakote but without the stomach protection.

Seroquel: Flat emotions and weight gain.

Wellbutrin: Flat emotions and weight gain.

The main drug I have taken is Lexapo (20mg), going on 6 months now, I like it since it works for depression and GAD, but only very average for SA/SP.

Other drugs are; Inderal, which doesn't seem to do much but I'm only on 10mg. Zyprexa, as a mood stabilizer, it also doesn't do much except keep me level. I also have taken Valium, which is overrated in my opinion, I'd taken 2x5mg pills and it would do nothing. Xanax is a different story, a really great drug. I take 1mg and I'm looking to go to 2mg. Also at the moment I'm looking to swap over from Lexapro to Effexor cause I'm at the max dose of Lexapro and probably at the stage of needing a stronger antidepressant and something more potent for SA/SP.

imipramine
zoloft
paxil
effexor
clonazepam
ativan

... all did jack shit for my condition(s) except cause people to ask me why my pupils are dilated.

and then there's alcohol, weed, shrooms, acid, coke, e, meth, etc.

... which all helped short-term and did more damage long-term

I've taken lots. Let me think of the all, LOL

First medication ever was Prozac. I was so young I don't remember how I felt exactly. I just remember the doctor took me off of it after about a month.

Zoloft - I took it for 12 years. I worked wonders on me. I was only 6 when I started it so I can't remember if it gave me side effects or not. it helped my OCD tremendously and also my depression. I stopped taking it when I was 18 and I didn't really have a hard time getting off of it.

Buspar. I took it for about 6 months. It did help with my anxiety, OCD and depression. It caused a lot of weight gain and luckily I lost it all afterwards. I took it when I was 16 along with my Zoloft.

Seroquel - They gave me this for my severe depression after my mom died. I was 17 and was still in high school. I could not stay awake for nothing and I was constantly dehydrated. I took it for a few months and I couldn't handle it anymore. Plus I was better and no longer needed an anti psychotic.

Lexapro - I hated when I took Lexapro. It did to me like Seroquel. It made me very sleepy and dehydrated. I felt like my depression got worse with it so I stopped taking it after not long at all.

Xanax - I took it for a couple of years. I loved Xanax. It made my anxiety sooo much better. The only bad thing with Xanax was my memory. I would forget things a lot more and sometimes just go blank for no reason. Xanax was very hard to come off of. I just stopped taking it. I would have tremors, very bad panic attacks, I woulg get hot and start sweating really bad and I would also just sit there and cry for no reason. My neck hurt on the left side for a while from where I was having tremors.

Effexor - After a while it helped some, but not much. In the beginning I just felt like I was getting worse. People would tell me I looked like a zombie because my emotions just weren't 'there' It was a really strange feeling. It also gave me sexual side effects and I was sick to my stomach a lot. I took myself off of it and it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be, but still the worst medication I have had to come off of, next to Xanax that is.

Cymbalta - I LOVED Cymbalta. It was similar to Effexor with the side effects in the beginning. The side effects with Cymbalta didn't last near as long though. It made me feel so much better when I was taking it. My depression and OCD had gotten so much better that they were almost non existent. That was the last thing I took and that was about 2 months ago. I did have some trouble coming off of it. Not as bad as Effexor though.

Navane- Old school antipsychotic given to me while I was flipping out in the hospital. Totally killed all anxiety, and motivation to think feel etc...

Depakote- mellowed me a little. I didn't stay on it long enough to know for sure... It was given to me along with the Navane in the hospital.

Paxil- I liked Paxil. Was on it short term. Caused me insomnia but totally lifted me out of depression.

Lexapro- wasn't great for anxiety and social phobia. I had a real hard time with agoraphobia on this drug during start up. It disrupted my sleep made me a bit anxious. i had a really bad bout the second time around this drug, and developed a mild psychosis 8O 8O . Stopped taking immediately and was fine. Really. Just a bit nuts is all.

Seroquel- fell asleep with my eyes on the subway on this stuff. Was given 25mg to take as needed. Would fall asleep with my eyes open during conversations.

Topamax- A little bit activating for a mood stabilizer. LOVED WHAT IT DID FOR MY MOODS. Had issues with hypomania, extra pyramidal syndrome, and urinary tract probs. Caused anxiety the second time round.

Valium- ok makes me stoned but doesn't fix much.

Xanax. Ok makes me chill a little but I could easily develop an addiction to this stuff.

Effexor- evil stepdaughter of anti-depressants to me. I was put on the world's smallest dose (9.36mg) and flipped out on it. Caused major anxiety. Stopped on day 4.
