'Life is useless' movies/books?

What are some movies you've or books you've read that pretty much describe your situation?

I'd say that movie "Amelie". I'm a guy, but the way she reacted to people totally reminded me of myself. Shying away when someone is interested in you.

Has anyone seen that Chinese movie "Vive 'Amour"? It's about this lonely girl who works in real estate and she gets picked up by this guy and they go screw but never verbally communicate. Then they go their own ways. The whole movie has almost no dialog in it, but it's pretty sad, but good in it's own way. It's basically about lonely people.

For books, I'd say "Nausea" by Jean-Paul Sartre. It's 'OK' as a book, but kind of reminds me of my life. Well, except for the part where he actually picks up a chick.

What are some other ones?

I agree this is a really great topic. I'd say Amelie too. That is the greatest movie ever! But I don't think I'm nearly half as charming or sweet as she was in that film. I'm more of a bitter social phobic. So I'd say movies like Taxi Driver and Mulholland Dr and the book Crime and Punishment (minus the homicidal tendencies) and Requiem For a Dream get the atmosphere of my life pretty spot on but on a lighter note I relate to films like Garden State and Dedication as well.

Amelie is a good one. 'Vive Amour' sounds pretty good- I have to check that out!

Mine are:

Punch Drunk Love- I just love the little quirks that Adam Sandler's character has. He slips up words, overly cautious/worried, etc

The Good Girl- I am quiet natured and a bit odd like Holden. I feel his loneliness, his want to leave a legacy (writing) behind, and even his little drinking problem.

Ghost World- I am so Enid! I have no idea what to do with my life, bitter about the world, just want to run away.

I've never seen "Amelie." I'm going to have to rent that one. It sounds good. "Vive 'Amour" sounds really good too.

I guess I would say "The Phantom of the Opera," because the Phantom is so lonely. And the book "Phantom" by Susan Kay is a story about the Phantom of the Opera's life and how he has always been shunned and lonely and has never let people get too close. It's my favorite book.

Virgin Suicides - I wouldn't hurt myself but I feel trapped in my house and I listen to music to get out of reality for awhile.

The Hours - They all deal with suicide in a different way. I would say Meryl Streep's character is more like me. I had someone that I dearly loved kill himself.

Nell - Feels like I'm isolated and everyone looks at me like I don't belong.

The Weather Man - Just seems like nothing ever goes right no matter how hard you try.

One Hour Photo - You dream about being part of a family so you make one up.

I watched "Amelie" last night and it was really good! And yes, I felt that I could really relate to her and the guy Nino.
