Well, I just got back from the doctor and he prescribed lexapro for me. just took my first little pill here.

I was on paxil for a while a couple of years ago and did okay. Anybody have experience with lexapro they'd care to share with me? I'm nervous/hopeful about it.

I know a couple of people who were on Lexapro for generalized anxiety and they've had success with it, for what it's worth.

I was on Paxil for a little while but quit. It's kind of funny in a sad way (if that makes sense) - the main reason I stopped taking it was because the psychiatrist who prescribed them to me made me really nervous - she just didn't have a very warm personality. So after the first day I never went back to see her, and so I quit taking the pills so I wouldn't develop any dependency issues when my bottle ran out. Also my best friend's mom was on it and she got the side effect for suicidal thoughts pretty badly and that scared me. The last thing anxious people need are suicidal thoughts.

sad to hear the results are not that good... I was given this but not sure I want to try it now...

Try it anyways. Even though SSRI have a less than 50% chance to work, still no one can tell whether it will or wont work for you. Everyone is different. Its simply trial and error for anti-depressants.

Yeah dont be put off in taking it just cause others have had poor results. I took it before and it did nothing for me. But I knew a guy who took it and it transformed his life, he was able to work and go out and all that. Drugs react differently for everyone.

I have been on Lexapro, Paxil, Zoloft, Wellbutrin, Effexor, and Celexa for anti-depressant medication.

Lexapro is a safe med with the lowest amount of side effects for any SSRI's. Unfortunately it did nothing for social anxiety for me.

I took Celexa this past summer and it is basically Lexapro, just an older medication with slightly less serotonin selectivity.

Celexa worked well for me for aboot 4 months or so and it quit working. Its like my brain adjusted and got used to it or something.

If money is an issue then I recommend going on Celexa because it is cheap and has aboot the same side effect profile as Lexapro. Also Celexa has been shown to be effective in persons who haven't responded well to other SSRI's.

Even if it hasnt worked for others here, everyone responds to SSRI medicine different. The only way to really know if it will work for you is to try it for aboot 1-2 months.

When I tried it I had some lightheadedness, so I wasn't on it for very long.
Best of luck to you! &don't be discouraged by stories of it not working so well for others. As other people have stated, everyone reacts differently, so maybe it'll work wonders for you. :]
