Just met an old friend from way back today

So today I was shopping for some stuff and happened to meet an old friend of mine who was working cashier at the place... we used to hang out and be pretty good friends about 3 years back before I totally began to withdraw into myself and burn all my bridges. We'd known each other since high school and hung out routinely throughout our college years... drinking, partying, etc.

Anyway, we lost touch when I started to lose touch (I also lost my phone with all my numbers including his, which complicated the matter), which was around 2008 or so. After a short convo at the register, he gave me his number... he's living with some people I also knew from that era...

I have no friends anymore and this represents a huge break for me back into the social world. I am just so nervous about so abruptly reintroducing myself into this social circle that I haven't had anything to do with for years... I'm afraid to call because I don't know what kinds of things we have in common anymore and how to become a member of that group again...

Sounds like a good opportunity harlseq. I say try it. What have you got to lose? Your social anxiety? Or what's the worse that could happen? You act really weird, shy and quiet around them... you freak them out and they never talk to you again.... but that happens often anyway, right?

So try it, you only risk looking like a fool (for your own damn fault :p) and possibly losing your social anxiety... I'd definately be willing to looking like a complete fool if it meant a chance at bettering my social situation. Good luck!

Yeah, I'll probably give him a call this weekend. I was friends with the other guys he lives with too so maybe we can just go to a bar or something nearby.
