I have never had a job and I am nineteen. First off I never had a ride and I cant drive because Im on too much meds. Public transportation isnt reliable. And i cant find a job that doesnt have me working or talking with people. When i get more comfortable I might try the A&P to stock shelves. Its the only thing i can think of. Do you have any ideas?

Trying to think of suitable jobs for socially phobia people seems to be one of life's great mysteries!

However, data entry, working with animals, libraries, and working from home are a few ideas that seem to get mentioned a lot on the site.

I agree with these suggestions, but I have to say from personal experience that these kinds of jobs tend to be hard to find. And I live in the city which is supposedly the best in the whole country right now to find jobs in, according to numerous lists I've seen. Still, I've had no luck with anything, even hotels. I tried calling about a data entry position just yesterday. I found the number listed in the newspaper.
Turns out the number had been disconnected or never really existed at all. Most of the data entry openings I see online prove to be fake. Of course, that's made pretty obvious right from the start when the salary for the job is listed as being up to $250,000 a year. Way too good to be true.

what's data entry?

Job Tasks for:
"Data Entry Keyers"
Compare data with source documents, or re-enter data in verification format to detect errors.

Compile, sort and verify the accuracy of data before it is entered.

Locate and correct data entry errors, or report them to supervisors.

Maintain logs of activities and completed work.

Read source documents such as canceled checks, sales reports, or bills, and enter data in specific data fields or onto tapes or disks for subsequent entry, using keyboards or scanners.

Load machines with required input or output media such as paper, cards, disks, tape or Braille media.

Resolve garbled or indecipherable messages, using cryptographic procedures and equipment.

Select materials needed to complete work assignments.

Store completed documents in appropriate locations.

Notice how none of that involves dealing directly with customers. It is, in many ways, a social phobics dream job.[/b]

Data entry will bore your senses after one day, and i only entered a database for one day, lol, then i left ...it doesnt pay that well either.

just write down the top 5 occupations you'd like to partake in seeing as you'll be doing it almost everyday of your life and target those areas ..

because every job will involve some form of social interaction whether its other staff, managers, customers, ....

if anything all be it scary at first, exposure will help you more then hiding in the long run you'll be thankful for pursuing any job ..

dont limit yourselves is my point

you could try stocking grocery store shelves overnight (of course, if you don't mind working all night long). you won't have to deal with customers and you'd be working with the same people so you could i guess work on communication. my friend has asbergers and did that and he said it was fine.
