Personally you will never know the truth...really?

If someone lied to you, would they even reveal the truth to you? I dont think so.

Just take the compliement and try not to let it get to you, cause it has if you are asking here Its hard I know..I do it all the time and it frustrates the hell out of me..but slowly getting better

^ agreed, true friends are those that stick around even when times are bad. That's the only way you're going to find out whether or not he was genuine

I've got a bunch of childhood friends, and no matter what happens, no matter how long we don't speak, when we get together again for some reason everything seems to be fine between us...

Makes me feel really guilty to be honest. I never make an effort to stay in touch, it's always someone else. But they seem to understand that...

Seems believable to me, he wouldn't tell you about lying for that reason if he were doing it to you too. Seems like he's just being thoughtless about the impression he's giving you but isn't actually trying to pull anything. Also I haven't met very many people who would try to con someone they've been friends with for 6 years for free dinners.

Although this is the main reason I don't like people who do things like that, cause it makes you question everything they do with you too.
