Howdy everyone. I just recently registered to this site and am introducing myself and hope you will not haze me too much.

I am RagunCajin. I am a senior in high school.

Though it may seem rather queer, I am not "officially" diagnosed with have social anxiety disorder, though I exhibit many of the symptoms and have had a therapist highly suggest that I see a psychiatrist. (Forgive me if I mixed those two around).

I have been shy and reluctant to being social my entire life, but have only been distressed about it for about 5 years. When I started my freshman year of high school my hands would shake quite noticeably, I would sweat for no reason, stutter, and would just generally be uncomfortable. Because my anxiety got the best of me, I could not focus on school work and failed freshman year.
Because of that, I am now attending a charter school where one can focus solely on school work and not have to acknowledge another students existence--as cynical as that sounds. Long story short, I am now a senior who is going to graduate on time.

So....here (somewhat) is my story.

Before I conclude this post, I have a question: Do you consider it 'bad' to want to graduate without making any friends?

Depends on your peer group. I grew up in D.C. among nasty self-serving elitists. I made friends, but only for lack of choices. I don't look back fondly on any of them. Most are fronting white collar parasites now. I'm happier being a cat herder than competing with those tools.

Hi and welcome to the forum!

It's not "bad" to want to graduate w/o making any friends. If being around other people makes you so anxious that it disrupts your academic progress, then it's better for you to just focus on your schoolwork for now. Friends and social interactions can come later.

I hope you do graduate on time. It's not fun to be stuck in high school again.

Depends on your peer group.

Though I am ashamed to say it, many of the students at my school are people whom I would never consider socializing with in a million years--mostly because of their life choices (i.e. criminal record, drug user, drug dealer, have children in high school, etc.).

Here's a quote from my favorite author, Gene Wolfe.

"As a society we only treat the disturbed, not the disturbing." Maybe it's a good thing to make no friends in your current environment. Our society is corrupt and insane, in my opinion. Social people, to me, seem to be some combination of daft and selfish, in many cases...but that's probably just my disorder talking... :)

Hehe, I concur. That quote is pretty awesome. Funny how whenever I say that I have social anxiety and have no friends the other person gives me a funny look, whereas if I were to say I had a billion friends on that internet face-thing that I would never meet would be perfectly fine.
