I'm so stupid

I just may have gotten myself into some serious mess.

I'm at the cash register and a customer came up to "buy" something for $4.20 and gave me a $100 bill. Of course that was a red flag and that threw me off and I couldn't concentrate. I was about to go ahead and insert the bill after the draw opened but the guy said something. He asked how much it came up to as if he didn't hear me say it already or wasn't looking and the monitor with the total price of his purchase so I stop and held the bill. He said he'll give me a $5 and I was too fast to act without thinking and gave it back and realized I already entered in his payment. I told him that and he didn't give me back the money. He tried telling me he'll give me change and I was just too confused but I gave his change and meant to ask for the $100 back but I let him walk out with everything...

Now I don't know if I'll get in trouble for letting him rob us or if they'll say I stole the money...

Sounds like a scam artist, and you're probably not the only cashier they've targeted. The whole point is to be confusing and take advantage of the fact that people eventually run on automatic. Best to report it to your supervisors instead of letting them wonder where the money went.

I know that's what their intention was but I should have known better if I was a better cashier. I told the manager right away :(

It's not your fault! I think that more than 90% of people are robbed in those situations.
