Anyone else read or reading this books by Dale Carnegie? It's like 70 years old but it's fantastic. It doesn't really deal with SA or anything and it doesn't feed you bullcrap to make yourself feel better and tell how important you are etc etc etc. But real sound advice on how to react, communicate with people etc.
I just started reading it and I don't normally read books like this but this book is fantastic!!! Since my number one problem is how to hold myself while reacting with people, I find this book to be incredibly helpful. In it are the Fundamental Techniques for Dealing with People, A simple way to make a good first impression, how to interest people, how to make people like you instantly etc... I think we all know that people are not seeing us the way we assume they are which makes us anxious. But having an actual guide on how to better hold myself up keeps me off my anxious thoughts and more willing to try new stuff with people.
Its NOT a self help book.. just more of a social guide and I know thats one of my major problems after realising my anxious thoughts were irrational. I mean, I've felt like a piece of crap and that everyone hated me or I was just worthless for so long that once I realised it wasn't true, I kinda missed on the developing on any social skills so it was kind of like... well I know I have no right to be anxious but now I'm feeling anxious cause I don't know how to converse well or be interesting etc.
Anyway this book is awesome and I can't wait to go through it and read it again and really start applying these things better during work or whatever. Feels like a game actually I'm anxious to play... Last week was probably the best week I think I ever had at work too BTW. I didn't have this book then but I was still applying basic stuff the book hits on (like showing genuine interest in people etc) so its just basic social common sense that I think a lot with SA are so busy thinking about themselves that they forget or aren't sure how to react when dealing with people being closed up for so long. But I think this book would be immensely helpful at making friends provided they're willing to work at it hard enough and really want it enough to be able and focus on technique than themselves.
Just thought I'd suggest it anyway.
Edit: This with my full body workout routine and new healthy eating dieting, I'm feeling much better about myself and hopeful ^_^
