My parents have ignored it and that caused me to ignore it for a very long time. I have always had close friends, so it was easy to be like "oh she is just a little shy but its not effecting her emotionally". But as an adult, I finally realized it is way more than being shy. I actually didn't know they had an actual name for it until a couple months ago. I don't think I'll tell me parents what it's called or what it is, they are comfortable with calling it "a little shy and nothing more" and I'm comfortable with them thinking its just that.
